Galapagos Journey 1 – Anahi

Anahi is a Smart Voyager Certified Luxury Catamaran which takes passengers around the unique Galapagos Islands in style whilst minimising it’s environmental impact. The design of this catamaran oozes luxury, with a jacuzzi on board, leather seats in the lounge area and spacious cabins you will feel like royalty  on board this cruise.

They offer different itineraries around the islands from 4, 5 and 8 day options. I took the 8 day option, and would highly recommend you need this length of time to do justice to the Galapagos Islands.

There is almost 1 to 1 crew to passenger ratios and this vessel boasts the only twenty-four hour on board cruise director in the Galapagos. Journey 1 is also the only catamaran in the Galapagos islands that has a Smart Voyager Certification, this was awarded after the attainment of the strict conservation standards which ensure this catamaran is environmentally sustainable.

During any of the itineraries offered on board Galapagos Journey 1 you will visit several ecosystems within the Galapagos Archipelago.

You will most certainly come face to face with sealions, turtles, sharks, pengins, boobies, iguanas, albatros and many many more unique, un-afraid and interesting animals. Each island seems to offer something different, and although you cannot touch the animals the baby sealions often sniff your feet as a puppy would. Whilst swimming they also weave playfully around you in close proximity.

There is almost too much to take in when visiting Galapagos, however a cruise can help ensure you see as much as possible in the short time you are there. By being at sea on board Galapagos Journey 1 and travelling during the night you can save valuable time that can be used instead to visit more islands. Another benefit of taking a cruise is you get to many of the islands before any other tourist arrives, some we were completely alone the whole time. The catamaran design also offers a smoother ride to yachts, so those with sea sickness can still enjoy intimate boat travel around the islands.

The food offered on board is exquisite, the chef prepares the finest international and local cuisine using fresh ingredients of the highest quality. Any dietary requirement can be catered for and there is also a nice selection of fine wines, cocktails and fresh juices to compliment the meals. Upon arrival and departure you will be given a cocktail and presentation of the crew on board, the men look quite a sight in their pristine white sailor outfits.

When visiting the Galapagos Islands it is paramount to have a well qualified guide to help you get the best out of each island visited. The guides on board Galapagos Journey 1 are all certified by the Galapagos National Park and have gone through intensive training programs in order to qualify. Each guide used has several years of experience and a passion for the wildlife, biology, geology and natural history of the islands and their conservation. Galapagos Park guidelines and regulations will be explained and strictly adhered to throughout your stay. Some of these for example are: no touching the animals, no taking food on to the islands, no taking shells away from the islands and no using flash when photographing the animals.

In order to preserve the Galapagos Islands it is important to follow these rules and the guides on board will ensure you do this.

The Galapagos Islands, offer unforgettable experiences, and although it can be costly, if you check for special offers you may be amazed. This is a place worth saving for, I have travelled many places in my 24 years, but no where like Galapagos.

Did You Know?

Charles Darwin spent only 5 weeks in Galapagos aged around 26, he did not write his ‘Origin of Species’ until many years later. His observations of pigeons and dog breeders in England were much more influential to his discoveries than the Darwin Finches ever were. The Origin of Species book actually only has 1% referring to the Galapagos Islands!

In a Nutshell: The Galapagos Islands are a land like no other. Some may see Galapagos as a one off trip, but I am already planning another, and I can guarantee after you visit these islands you too will want to return again and again.
